Poppy is an ambitious new digital arts project exploring a contemporary, conceptual view on the Commemoration of the First World War 2014 – 18.

It’s happening in libraries across Trafford, Stockport, Manchester and Salford. They’re acting as digital art hubs where community groups are working alongside artists, creating film, poetry, art, spoken word, tweets, stories and audio.

You can explore their work here on the website, and on an original art-piece app, specially created to share the digital stories worldwide. mypoppy.co.uk

While the artwork is growing, real, tweeting poppies are being nurtured in the grounds of the historical Ordsall Hall in Salford. You can follow their musings here @tweetingpoppy, as well as discover fascinating stories and facts, and explore the fantastic content being created.

The poppies will form the setting for a beautiful, poignant art installation and performance to mark centenary eve of the start of First World War on Sunday 3 August 2014. 2pm – 4pm.

You are welcome to join us to explore the work, whilst commemorating the Centenary. At the end of the project, you will be able to download the app yourself.

Poppy’s purpose is to stimulate ambitious & innovative partnerships between libraries, artists and arts organisations. It encourages communities to participate in artistic and cultural activities in libraries to produce digital content.
Poppy is a partnership led by Trafford Council, between Stockport, Manchester, Salford Library Services, Imperial War Museum North, Ordsall Hall Salford. Lets Go Global are creative producers.
