  3. Another bit of my recent experimental drone/ambient/IDM set I played recently using mlrV, Kore, Reaktor, some smartelectronix VST's, glitch-sequencer, and Ableton Live 7. It was completely unplanned and off-the-cuff, but I actually enjoyed it more than some of my more thought-out sets lately. There was a lot of effect/delay/tempo/granular manipulation in this one, and very different than my usual stuff.

  4. A short segment of a really experimental mlr set I played recently. I'm using mlrV, with a variety of odd pad and background noise samples, synced to Live 7. Live is hosting Kore, which is in turn hosting Reaktor running GoBox (for the beats, controlled from the Kore hardware), and my custom FX setup. I'm also using glitch-sequencer, from the clever guy who made the glitchDS apps. That is running live "Conway's-Game-of-Life" style MIDI sequencing to OnePingOnly, another strange VST from smartelectronix. Then that stream is being resampled into a buffer and manipulated with granular processing, with a variable delay effect (another effect from smartelectronix). I'm using the tilt function in mlrV to manipulate the built-in delay, tempo, and filter. The unstable sync between Live and mlr is causing the tempo to fluctuate up and down by 1 or 2 BPM constantly, making those nice warping effects on the mlr output. This worked great at home, but was a nightmare to set up live. It took about 5 or 6 complete restarts before everything would talk together properly. Maybe it's time for a Mac after all....

  5. This is a set I put together using the aes mdb 0.4 edit of mlr (the one with rewire), NI Kore (using my own special-blend multi-FX), NI Pro-53 for leads, my Ibanez bass, and Ableton Live 7 as a shell/host. Everything is running in Max; Live is just there to allow easy FX processing and channel control. This is about 9 1/2 minutes of a 30-minute set. The 2nd track is a remix of "You Make Me Struggle" by Let's Go Outside (Soma), and the 3rd is a remix of "Jungle Drum" by Emiliana Torrini (Rough Trade). Later on there was some Evil Nine/"They Live" refix action. I wasn't happy with the live bass because something was just slightly out of tune, so I didn't play it much.
