Rosetta's Comet Touchdown

On 21 September 2010, the Rosetta's Comet Touchdown pilot educational kit was first presented and tested at the Engineering Faculty of the University of Rome, Italy.
Twelve students of aerospace engineering from that Faculty and three students of design from the European Institute of Design, were presented with the kit, watched the films (viewable on this Channel) and witnessed an explanation of the demonstration model of the LEGO® MINDSTORMS® Rosetta Lander. Next they had 3 hours to work and build a model of their own, as well as creating a work of art around the topic of comets / comet exploration.

This film is a reportage of the event.

The next day press releases came out at ESA (see esa.int/esaCP/SEMN40NO7EG_index_0.html), DLR (see dlr.de/DesktopDefault.aspx/tabid-1/117_read-26696/) and INAF, Italy (see media.inaf.it/2010/09/22/lego/).

The event happened in the framework of the European Planetary Science Congress, that was held between 19 and 24 of September 2010. This yearly conference is organised by Europlanet, which is one of the sponsors of the pilot kit presented.

The project is based on an original idea by Steven Canvin (LEGO® MINDSTORMS® team), Maarten Roos (Lightcurve Films) and Detlef Koschny (ESA) and is supported by the European Space Agency, the DLR German Aerospace Center, the European Planetology Network and the LEGO Group, LEGO® MINDSTORMS® team.

See vimeo.com/channels/rosettascomettouchdown for all details, links to Press Releases and other films in the kit.
