Roslin Nature

This 30 minute film follows on from Oasis - The Birds of the Esk Valleys, and is a year long journey around some special places in the Lothian counties in southeast Scotland where nature can be watched without disturbance.. Starting in the Esk Valley looking for elusive jays, the journey takes the viewer to East Lothian coastal grassland, and then to the higher ground of the Lammermuir Hills, Moorfoot Hills and the Pentland Hills. Species include short-eared and long-eared owls, ring ouzels, wheatear, breeding upland waders, sand martins and house martins, and residents of conifer wood such as goldcrest, goldfinch and common crossbill. Old Esk Valley residents are briefly revisited including breeding nuthatches and peregrines, and non avian flora and fauna, notably brown hares and mountain hares, are studied.

The music for Outlands was composed and performed by Dymtro Morykit.

Roslin Nature is a channel to illustrate my film-making work, and to give previews of new projects. I have been making wildlife films since 2006 and have made four main films to date, each taking two years to produce. Most of the film work is done in my local area, Roslin Glen. This is a great place for wildlife, and is part of the Esk Valley river system, which forms a green corridor through Midlothian in southeast Scotland.

My films are made for the general public, to show wildlife in their local environment and to educate and entertain. To this end I have given talks and shown these films to numerous local and national clubs and societies, including to RSPB and Scottish Ornithologists Club meetings. Documentary making is an enjoyable challenge and affords a much greater appreciation of the work of the professionals.

I hope you enjoy the films!
