Mariam's Restaurant, co-directed, filmed & produced by Ofer Rudolphson and Tal Cohen-Litant
Ofer Rudolphson and Tal Cohen-Litant are friends, collaborators & filmmakers. Ofer lives in Berlin, Germany and Tal lives in Malibu, California. On accepting the Sundance Short Film Challenge, they both decided to meet in Tel-Aviv, Israel on May 20th and filmed "Mariam’s Restaurant". This experience turned out to be very profound. It became an opportunity to learn about the past atrocities and current difficulties of the Sudanese refugees who escaped Darfur. It was their first encounter with the problematic policy of the Israeli government towards asylum seekers. Many of the refugees are sent to Holot, a detention facility in the desert where they must register three times a day to authorities.
