H. J. Schlieker

  1. Christoph Böll, the director of this documentary comments: "I spent two weeks with Hänner Schlieker in the etching studio Kätelhön in Wamel, Germany, and was able to experience first hand the events described by both Bernd Growe in his text 'Figur der Bewegung', and by Wolfgang Zemter in his interview on the genesis of an etching by Hänner Schlieker. It was a primal experience to watch the aggression with which Hänner Schlieker attached the copper plates. The completed etching seemed to me a conciliation between artist and copper plate. The finished film contains almost only live sounds from the studio."

  4. Christoph Böll comments on this video: "I had the great honour of being the first to observe and document first hand Hänner Schlieker at work. This privileged situation allowed me to record the birth of three paintings from empty canvas to completed work. The genesis of one of these paintings I was able to completely capture in the film, 'Figur der Bewegung'. Hänner Schlieker's decision to let me record him at work and reveal the secrets of his studio will become an enduring part of his artistic legacy. 'I will never forget the intensity of the hours we spent together in complete concentration and focus on this documentation process.'"
