How can educators build a classroom learning community where students are learning to write and writing to learn, across all grade levels and content areas? According to the California Common Core State Standards English Language Arts & Literacy in History/Social Studies, Science, and Technical Subjects (CA CCSS for ELA/Literacy), “to build a foundation for college and career readiness, students
need to learn to use writing as a way of offering and supporting opinions, demonstrating understanding of the subjects they are studying, and conveying real and imagined experiences and events.

This webinar in the Secondary Literacy Partnership’s series, Literacy for College and Career Readiness in the 21st Century, engages participants in an exploration of how to build capacity in students to make claims and use evidence with LOC teacher resources, including primary sources, and the analysis tools.
Educators can use these resources to meet CA CCSS for ELA/Literacy in both writing, and speaking and listening.
