Welcome to The London Primary School Silent Film Festival Channel!

Throughout the school year 2011-2012, schools across London worked very hard to create their silent movies to enter into the London Primary School Silent Film Festival. The festival was held on the 13th July at the Theatre Royal Stratford East, and was a great success! Over 400 young filmmakers were in attendance, and Alex Wheatle, the award winning London Author, spoke to the children about their fantastic films and his experiences as a writer, and was even a judge on the Film Festival awards panel!

How Does It Work ???

As the first step, our drama and film teacher has an initial discussion with the class teacher/project leader to decide the basic outline of what the school wants. It is a great way to enhance curriculum based study or any subjects the school may be exploring.

A workshop day is then arranged with each school involved, where the Film in Education team visit the school and work all day with the whole class on story, drama, storyboarding, discussing props, wardrobe, locations etc. We also cover the silent film genre and explore examples of other silent movies for inspiration.

Filming takes place on a separate day where the children get to act, help with camera, direct and produce their film. We supply all the cameras and other equipment. When the filming is complete our editor puts it together and adds music, sound effects, special effects, titles etc and you receive the completed DVD.

The children all enjoy the process enormously, working co-operatively and thinking creatively whilst gaining a good background into filmmaking, and their subject matter. Some children will want to help with the filming, whilst others will want to act, work on props, costume etc.

Well Done and a BIG thank you to every one involved last year, we are excited about the 2012-2013 film festival, and have some exciting plans to make this year the best yet!
