1. Repetition with variety is key to instructional activities.To learn a skill and generalize it across contexts, instruction must provide repetition of the skill in a variety of ways. In many of the video segments you have seen variations of activities associated with a Greeting Conversation. This is another activity that the students do to practice the conversations they learn. In order to communicate students with complex communication needs have to do so much. What we want to do is minimize the work load for them as much as possible-certainly in conversations we can do that. What we are trying to do is get students to reach of level of automaticity with conversations and skills we are teaching them. So when they go to have the conversations in "real-life" it is so automatic that minimal thinking is necessary. . Just like many of the conversations we have in our daily lives.

  2. In this segment on teacher is using real conversation to model and demonstrate how you can comment during a conversation to extend the actual conversation. Students are learning what a conversation is and how to maintain the conversation. Early on we modeling with video samples, real-life scripts and practice, practice , practice in a variety of activities.

  3. Students learn specific core words that they learn how to spell, read and communicate with. In this video students are reading a book with their communication partners. In partner read the students read a part and the partner reads a part. In this case the students are reading the word We and the partner is reading the actions. Rachel is introducing this activity.

  5. This is one of the younger students in the second year of the project. She is using a Tobii system with the light tech or Dynamic Boards imported to the device. She is communicating with her eyes . This is early on, learning how to use the device and transitioning from the light tech boards. Notice how even early on in the process she is navigating to her pages. Important for users when transitioning to devices is the opportunity to communicate about fun and motivating activities for her it was all about play!
