Annie Yang escaped China to avoid torture by the ruling Communist regime for her spiritual beliefs. She had to leave her son behind and when they next met he was like a stranger to Annie.
This was made during the Documentary Film-makers Group (DFG) 7 day training course. We had a day to research/recce, one day to shoot and one day to edit. We were tasked with directing the shooting of our film. I wrote the script and edited too.

I love this beautiful island and did a test interview and some b-roll shot on a Sony HVR-A1 MiniDV camera of my father as an artist, with stunning Menorca views as the backdrop. When New Tang Dynasty TV saw the footage they asked if I would turn it into a programme for their World of Dreams series.
The second session interviews and b-roll were shot on a Sony EX1.
The programme was going to be transmitted in Chinese and so the script was a collaboration with NTD's Chinese team, using the device of a traditional Chinese proverb about the journey of life.
