This was a project undertaken during the first semester of the SVA MFA Designer as Author program. The task was to create a music video in black and white, using only typography. I created a hand drawn version of Helvetica specifically for the video.
During my first semester class at SVA with Stefan Sagmeister we had to touch someone's heart with design. I chose my girlfriend, Kathleen who has a bit of an issue getting out of the door in the morning. This is primarily because of her wardrobe, and the daunting task of putting together the perfect outfit. So I decided to simplify the process and create a style guide for her where she can mix and match, and compose her outfits. This involved me buying a mannequin and photographing every item of clothing that she owns.
Rather than show a single page, view the animation which shows every item in the book. (And a fraction of the work involved in putting it together. Its safe to say that this project nearly killed me)
In the final part of Scott Stowell's SVA "explain yourself" class we were asked to present our own work in a unique style. I made a tongue in cheek mockumentary about the finer points of graphic design. I wanted to steer clear of any elitist inside jokes and instead focus on the bizarre so that non designers might enjoy the video too. The whole thing was shot and edited by myself in two days.
