"Negative" emotions - grief, anger, guilt, shame, hopelessness, depression and anxiety - wrack our physical and emotional bodies. A yoga practice at this time may be daunting, but craved. During times of upset and loss in my own life, I have clung to the yoga mat when food is unappealing, sleep is gone, and communications are hard. Gently take time to sit with yourself, however you may be feeling, and release through hips and heart. What seems our most alienating experiences turn out to be our richest source of contact with others. A direct line to your own humanity.

Incorporating 'advanced' postures and intended to be physically challenging, these sequences build physical well being while balancing the nervous system and promoting meditative engagement with the day. They are SUPPOSED to be challenging, that is, you're not supposed to be able to do every single pose every single day; if you knew how to do everything there would be no reason to be on the mat. Do what you can today and in a little while the practice will be very different.
