1. Wrapped on a short documentary at the Great Salt Lake and the subject of my documentary novelist Robert Goble and I sat on a concrete foundation of an old beach resort to enjoy the scenery. I kept the camera rolling. He told me a ghost story.

  3. I saw this location-- hanging branches and thought it would be cool to shoot a story through them. Using it as an element of reveal and conceal for characters. We improvised a scene and the dialogue came out of that. There was a circus in town and Jordan (a musician) had his guitar in the car, Kristen brought some different outfits-- that much we knew.

The extreme color grading to pink vintage photo was a way of taking the viewer away from naturalism and into another world. A magical world of the magician assitant.

  4. Always wanted to shoot a shakespeare play. So, I decide with our Sunday Film Group I'll do just that. But instead of tackling the major scenes or the entire play I would just concentrate on the minor characters in the beginning of Hamlet. The beginning scene before the ghost enters had all the elements for a suspense short film. And in addition the dialogue in this scene was not too tasking for my non-actors. We rehearsed and we shot the entire scene under a bridge in daylight.

I shot with the canon 5d mark2. Great camera for low light. The bridge was the perfect location for the moody feel I wanted. By opening the 50mm lens wide to its lowest number the minimal source-light-- the crack-opening from above the freeway and the spill from the entrances gave me enough light to underexpose the actors faces. This also allowed me to overexpose the entrances of the bridge where light was at its brightest-- keeping what you would have seen hidden. It was a fun experiment.

It was excepted to play at a local theater on the big screen.

  5. Every Sunday we meet and shoot stories. Sometimes we finish them sometimes we mean to finish it the following Sunday. Three is one of the shorts we never went back to finish. So it lives as is-- like Hawaiian poi. Enjoy.
