1. Yosi Glick, Co-founder & CEO of Jinni and author of Super Search Me!, discusses the limitations of the current grid-based video guide and proposes groundbreaking new ways to break through the old paradigms to create a next-generation discovery experience.
In session 1 Glick tackles the user profiles commonly used in video guides. Remember when the Wall Street Journal article proclaimed, "My TiVo thinks I'm gay!"? This is just one example of how user profiling fails to accurately capture the true entertainment tastes of household members. Glick explains how semantic discovery enables an accurate, personalized discovery experience.

  3. Did you ever notice that all EPGs look pretty much the same? Besides the logo that appears in the corner, all on screen programming guides are basically clones.
All that is needed to understand our subscribers’ needs is to remember that we too are TV consumers. When you watch TV how often do you use the EPG if at all? If you could completely reinvent the TV navigation experience, what would you want?

  4. Are all video guides destined to look the same?
A review of the guides in market gives the impression that the design is etched in stone – a law of nature. It’s true that the TV guide has survived decades without undergoing any serious innovation. The real culprit behind this UX stagnation is the underlying data that powers the guide. “Is this a book about the next Google? No. It is a book about what Google can’t tell you.”

Why does choosing a TV show often cause conflict within families? Why are ebookstores overwhelming? Why is it so hard to find new mobile games that offer just the right challenge and price point?
Entrepreneur and entertainment industry veteran Yosi Glick explains how rapid changes in entertainment technology have stranded consumers with vast choice and little guidance for making personally relevant selections. A clear-eyed analysis of current discovery tools is followed by a visionary description of a discovery experience that fits the way consumers think about entertainment. Proving this is no mere sci-fi fantasy, Yosi Glick lays out the steps his company, Jinni, has taken toward creating this human-sized discovery system.
