In the latest SurfEXPLORE installment the team (with the addition of guest surfer/artist Phil Goodrich) travels to the remote, and largely unsurfed, coast of Mindanao in the southern Philippines. A reputation for political instability, violence and ongoing clashes between the army and several rebel groups has kept travelers and surfers away from the island for many decades, but its stunning coast is a relatively safe and peaceful haven that hides some real gems.
Filmed and edited by Emiliano Cataldi and John Seaton Callahan.
The music track "Brothers on the Slide" is from the album Promised Heights (1974) by Cymande.

Travel, Exploration, Adventure and Surf – driven by this simple mantra the surfEXPLORE team (Sam Bleakley, Erwan Simon, Emi Cataldi and photographer John Callahan), joined by legendary Hawaiian surfer Randy Rarick, take a journey to the remote south coast of Gabon in west Africa, where stunning landscapes and quality waves abound. MAYUMBA retraces the steps of their trip and discoveries along the road (kind of) less traveled.
Full feature film coming in 2011...stay tuned!
The SurfEXPLORE team ventures into one of the last unspoilt corners of the Mediterranean sea searching for new, uncrowded and unsurfed waves. The trip, shot by master lensmen John Callahan and Emiliano Mazzoni, will be published in surf, travel and outdoor magazines worldwide. Stay tuned!
