This exhibit about the experience of survival after an unexpected violent act of terrorism explores stories of survivors of 9/11 and the challenges they faced moving forward. The stories highlight some of the challenges of surviving a major disaster, as well as to point to some of the most effective conscious choices that people have made to help them regain control of their lives. This exploration of the stories of survivors of 9/11 may resonate with people who recover from other disasters. The comments throughout the written narrative were developed based on discussion with Dr. Craig Katz, Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry and Medical Education, Icahn School of Medicine, Mt. Sinai Hospital, one of the leading medical centers responding to the health needs of the 9/11 community.
