Photojournalist Ed Kashi (VII Photo Agency) has recently launched an IndieVoic.es campaign to continue his documentary work on the epidemic of Fatal Chronic Kidney Disease of unknown cause (CKDu) among sugarcane workers in Chichigalpa, Nicaragua. Often referred to as the "Island of Widows," this town marks a ground zero for this disease with nearly one-third of men in end stage renal failure.

Kashi aims to raise $18,000 to return to Nicaragua to expand his previous reporting with still images and video interviews. “Ultimately this material could be utilized in local information and outreach programs to address problems confronting the workers and their families,” he notes.

Please visit Ed Kashi's IndieVoic.es page to learn more about this public health crisis and to donate to the campaign. With your help, this project can make a positive change in the lives of the many families affected.
