1. It's been a long time coming, but we've finally made it to Telluride. The ski town living, the blood, the sweat, the tears, it's now all real.

This is a ski documentation, one that reveals all aspects of living in our own little slice of paradise.

From epic face shots and après ski to the locals we meet and our hunt for work, we will convey the highs, the lows and all the sweet powder stashes in between. This is our life; see how we live it.

  2. Although off season has come to a close, Telluride is now in the transitional phase.

The area opens on Thanksgiving, allowing us to finally satisfy those ski cravings. Those dreams of untouched powder fields and picturesque cliff bands will no longer plague our sleepless nights; our skis will no longer cry out to us from the hall closet, begging to be used; soon, we will have the real thing.

Until then, it looks like the quest to consume our free time continues, since town is still dead. Besides, playing guitar, reading, watching movies and job hunting take up only so many hours in the day.

  3. Opening day has finally arrived, and the weather couldn’t have been better.

Blue bird skies and below freezing temperatures greeted us, as well as a whole slew of locals, while we lapped Village Bypass and lower Misty Maiden.

Sure, the snow pack dwarfs that of other Colorado resorts at the moment, but considering that it has been too long since any of us have “shredded the gnar,” opening day was all that we could have asked for. Besides, the few boxes and mini table-tops allowed Bobby and I to get back on our feet – so to speak – with the whole freeride scene, sketchy backflips and all.

  4. It’s one thing to move to a ski town and have difficulties finding a season pass. With the high prices, a job that provides employees with one is crucial. But, it is an entirely different matter altogether to move to a ski town and have a hard time getting a pass while both of your roommates hit the slopes on a daily basis.

Well, the wait is finally over: Dutch got a ski pass.

Considering that he is normally behind the scenes, filming Bobby and I, we decided that the best way to celebrate this momentous event was to give Dutch the chance to “shred some gnar.” Apologies are given in advance for the potential decline in film quality; I tried my best and it was my first time using the camera.

  5. Out of all of the lifties at all of the ski areas that we've visited, the ones at Telluride are by far the nicest. They always have smiles on their faces, consistently ask how things are going and manage to add a neighborly ambiance to anyone skiing or snowboarding. In a nutshell, they actually have fun while working.

Because they are so noticeable on the mountain, we figured that the Teluride lifties deserved a little recognition, a tribute, if you will. Coincidentally, one of my high school friends happens to work on Lift 6, and he was more than willing to ski with us for a few runs during his break and talk about why he loves his job here in the San Juan Mountains.

So, be nice to your lifties. Without them, we'd have to hike up every time we wanted to ski down. Besides, getting to know them could lead to you learning a few of their secrets, such as how to "self-bump" (whatever that means.)
