THERE ARE NO WORDS

  1. After the success of the NGV Melbourne Now Public Programs we were invited to be a part of the City of Greater Dandenong's Cultural Threads Festival. In June we held a workshop with the Australian Hazara Woman's Friendship Network, stitching and making photo strips from the tapestry flashcards. It was a wonderful day and very inspiring to see what the woman produced.

This video captures the events of the day and will play on the Dandenong Civic Square Big Screen from
Thursday 31 July to Sunday 31 August. For more information about Cultural Threads visit greaterdandenong.com/document/27080/cultural-threads

Special thanks to Leona Dusanovic for all her help through this project and all its testing and opportunities.

  2. As an exhibiting artist in Melbourne Now at the NGV, Michelle Hamer was invited to host an event in the Community Hall. This presented an exciting opportunity to work with the public and test out some ideas for the project - "There are no words"

Over 2 days in January and February 2014 participants could stitch around text on flash cards that were not yet complete and they could also to create statements using the cards with this process captured through time-lapse photography.

This video captures some of what happened on both days.

  3. For our second workshop at Melbourne Now, we thought we would set up the timelapse/photobooth in front of the water wall.

  4. This video is the footage taken from the time lapse test we did on the first of our Melbourne Now public program events held on January 12th 2014. This was our first chance to test the photobooth/timelapse set up. It was heaps of fun and we learnt a lot.

  5. With the time-lapse/photobooth test complete but still so many people around wanting to stitch and play, we took the opportunity to test out another format. Rather than the camera automatically taking a picture at regular intervals, I stood with the camera and took photos of people once they were in place and ready. The photos have stitched these together into this slideshow.
