It's a 1969 Opel GT, dressed up like a modern Corvette Racing race car, the kind that runs in ALMS and wins Le Mans. But the Opel, alas, runs in LeMons, that is, the 24 Hours of LeMons, which while not exactly prestigious, it is a hell of a lot of fun, and who really cares about prestige anyway?

The car was in nasty shape when we found it, but it is clean and pretty now and runs well in these LeMons endurance races, typically 16 hours, and occasionally 24 hours.

The in-car video system consists of two DataToys dual channel DVR's. The video and audio are recorded on four 16 GB CF cards (two per DVR) which can store up to 6.3 hours of video for each of the four cameras. Yes, that's 120 to 180 GB of video per race!

Editing is done using Adobe Premiere Pro CS5. The multi-camera mode of editing makes putting these videos together fairly easy, which is not actually easy, but much easier than my old way of working with more than one camera.

For these videos I try to capture both the action and excitement of racing by switching views to let the viewer see more of what is happening and to give a feel for what the driver is actually thinking, doing, dealing with.
