1. We were paired with one of our classmates and challenged to create a compelling introduction of them using video and the elements of time, motion and communication (the name of this course!). The process involved getting to know the person (over the course of a few days), designing a piece that communicated their essence (or began to) and used the process of design to iterate and refine. 3. This was a short exercise in which we were each assigned a word and challenged to create a 'visual identity' for that word (shown in 5-10 seconds). My word was 'alone'. I chose to explore the idea that 'alone is something that another might make you feel or that you only become aware of through the gaze of another'. In my quick research into the topic I found that eating alone is a 'problem area' for which products have been created, to combat this problem. I also came across the world's first (and only?) restaurant for one person. This led me to find a restaurant scene from the movie "The Lonely Guy". I created a short piece inspired by that scene. The result is something lighthearted to visually convey one interpretation of the word. Created by Nema Rao, in Dan Boyarski’s Time, Motion and Communication course at CMU Design (2014)

  4. The task was to visually communicate the rhythm of a piece of music. This was my first foray into motion design. I learned a lot about what I didn’t know about motion. This piece is meaningful to me because of what it taught me about the form of motion. I want to work on another version, which borrows more from the choreography of tango.
