Tradition Heard

In our third episode of Tradition Heard in Athens, we pay tribute to the Greek-Australian violinist Hector Cosmas, who tragically passed away on March 8th, 2012. We met Hector while he, Yannis Niarchos and Christos Biniaris were performing traditional music from Smyrna at Armenistis Tavern in the Moschato neighborhood of Athens. Hector’s passion was this old style of Greek folk music, so we hope this piece can help to carry on his legacy.

Armenistis Address: 36 Smolenski, Athens, Greece

Song: "Thalassa Leventopnihtra" first recorded by E. Menemenlis in Smyrna (1911)
