Martin Böttger's exhibition VYGER is dealing with our human future in relation to medical implants and mutations through technology into a futuristic as well as dystopian imagination. In this age of information, neuroscience and biotechnologies, the human body is redesigned to adapt the new environment of the information society.
These sculptures combine the fictional organic structures that make up our material with alien object. The materials are shiny and colorful, we use for greater efficiency in sports such as skiing or surfing gear. All these futuristic body parts and extensions seem to have invaded our inside.
The utopia of the most efficient body causes a dystopia of alienated body parts, extensions we might secretly desire to overcome the organic, to take on the next form. The sculptures are precise, easy to read and rich in detail triggering emotions and thoughts, tickling disgust and desire in us.
