Session Seven from the Multiversity International Conference on Decolonising Our Universities held in Penang, Malaysia, 27-29 June 2011 under the auspices of Universiti Sains Malaysia and Citizens International. The conference brought together scholars, activists, students and journalists from Asia, Africa, the Mideast and elsewhere to address the problem of Eurocentrism in the universities of the Global South and to explore alternatives and paths of resistance.

Chaired by Molefi Kete Asante, Professor of Africology at Temple University in the USA, Session Seven features presentations by four main speakers:

Erwin Soriano Fernandez, Director of the House of Pangasinan Studies, Urdaneta City, Pangasinan, Philippines, providing an overview of 'Intellectual Neo-Colonialism in the University.'

Zhou Li, Professor in the School of Agriculture, Economics and Rural Development at Renmin University of China, reporting on 'Colonising and Decolonising Works in Chinese Universities.'

Cheng-Feng Shih, Professor of Political Science, Department of Indigenous Development and Social Work, National Dong Hwa University, Hualien, Taiwan, offering a paper jointly written by Pei-Ing Wu on the topic of 'Academic Colonialism and the Struggle for Indigenous Knowledge in Taiwan.'

Ibrahim Pur of Gazi University, Ankara, Turkey, outlining 'The Impact of Westernization on the Turkish Educational System: A Critical Perspective.'

The presentations are followed by exchanges between the main speakers and conference participants, including Rajaram Tolpadi of Mangalore University, Shadrack Gutto of the Institute for African Renaissance Studies, Jamaludin Maidin of Malaysia, Shyam Singh of the Institute for Social and Economic Change, and Zainon Ahmad of the Sun Newspaper in Malaysia.
