Session Ten from the Multiversity International Conference on Decolonising Our Universities held in Penang, Malaysia, 27-29 June 2011 under the auspices of Universiti Sains Malaysia and Citizens International. The conference brought together scholars, activists, students and journalists from Asia, Africa, the Mideast and elsewhere to address the problem of Eurocentrism in the universities of the Global South and to explore alternatives and paths of resistance.

Chaired by Omar Farouk Bajunid, Professor of Comparative Politics at Hiroshima City University, the tenth session of the conference features four main presentations:

Yusef Progler, Professor and Associate Dean at Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University in Japan, speaking about the 'The Modern University Challenged: Higher Education Between Elitism and Corporatism.'

James Campbell, Lecturer in the School of Education at Deakin University in Australia, discussing 'Today's Universities: Mimicry or Creativity.'

Claude Alvares, Coordinator of the Multiversity Project and Director of the Goa Foundation in India, outlining 'Alternatives to Current (Ancient) University Pegagogy.'

Manish Jain, of Shikshantar: The People's Institute for Rethinking Education and Development In Udaipur, India, sharing 'Decolonisation Insights from the Swaraj University Experiment.'

The presentations were followed by comments from Shyam Menon, Vice Chancellor of Ambedkar University in India, and other conference participants including Sultan Ismail of India, Abdolhossein Khosropanah of Iran, Syed Farid Alatas of Singapore, Augustine Nwoye of Tanzania, and Mani Shankar Aiyar of India.
