In this 29 March 2011 interview broadcast live on KonTV from Konya, Turkey, Yusef Progler responds to questions about the remnants of imperialism in the world today and suggests responses to neo-colonialism and globalization.

Uncomfortable with notions of "purity" and "pollution" when speaking of intercultural contact, Progler instead offers a novel take on the post-colonial condition by recommending a "fast from the West" for peoples of the Global South. Unlike fighting, fasting can be a way to take stock of civilizational and cultural allegiances and dynamics in a world that has been shaped by a West-directed globalization. In the spirit of the great wisdom traditions, in order to be effective such a fast must be undertaken without fear, hate, or malice. Fasting is a method to develop introspection, and with the time gained from temporarily turning away from the West, Progler suggests that new and renewed intercultural connections can be nurtured throughout the Global South. In Turkish and English.
