Dissatisfied by the outcome of the UN COP15 Climate Summit in 2009, Evo Morales made a call for the People's Summit on Climate Change and the Rights of the Mother Earth in Cochabamba, Bolivia, from the 20th to 22nd April, 2010. It would be an opportunity for governments, scientists, academics, social organizations, and indigenous movements to unite and analyze the causes, effects, and proposals to climate change. 35,000 people from 142 countries were registered, with 47 official delegations. There were about 200 meetings and 18 working groups.

This video documents that historic meeting, the outcome of which was the final declaration, the People's Agreement, an excerpt of which follows:

Today, Mother Earth is hurt and the future of humankind is in jeopardy. The capitalistic model is the cause. We confront the terminal crisis of a civilizing model that is patriarchal and based on the submission and destruction of human beings and nature that accelerated since the industrial revolution. Humanity confronts a great dilemma: to continue on the path of capitalism, depredation, and death, or to choose the path of harmony with nature and respect for life. Developed countries, as the main cause of climate change, in assuming their historical responsibility, must recognize and honor their climate debt in all of its dimensions as the basis for a just, effective, and scientific solution to climate change. Climate change is now producing profound impacts on agriculture and the ways of life of indigenous peoples and farmers throughout the world, and these impacts will worsen in the future.

The video concludes with some modest proposals on how to bring this about.
