Dug the hell outta this song the first time I heard it. If you're familiar with my work you've seen Timeca a hundred times, either from me working on her projects or her popping up in mine. Great peeps with way too much talent, actress, filmmaker, song writer, singer, drummer, guitar player ... there's more, she's one of those. So the concept was simple after hearing her tell me about how the song came about:
"I wrote Silk's Funk Factory for my mom. Back in the day Silk was her nickname. You know, I never asked her where she got the nickname. But, growing up in the Delaney Projects of Gary, Indiana I just always remember our house being the spot where my mom and her friends would just let loose and party. My mom also had this plaque that looked like a piece of driftwood and it had the words "Silk's Funk Factory" etched into it and it was always hanging somewhere, on the door, the wall. I am so glad that my mom got a chance to come down and portray Silk in the video. She loved that moment! " ~ Timeca M. Seretti
And how much ass did her Mom kick playing Silk? Much, much ass was kicked my friends.
I knew I really wanted to have a location that had a bit of that classic juke joint vibe. Potentially funny side note, I kept telling her about this bar TC's Lounge that I thought would be perfect, she kept telling me about Sahara Lounge which she thought would be perfect ... turned out it was the same club. Had no idea TC had sold it and it had been renamed. Apparently Timeca and I agree even when we disagree. By any name the club was perfect and owner Eileen Bristol went out of her way to keep us comfy and help in any way she could. Other than that my second question was if she was still in touch with Precious, an awesome dancer/choreographer we had worked with in the past, because the song screamed for some choreography when it breaks into the "Hand up Hands up!" section. And when possible it's always good to try to change things up a bit around midway through the song/vid. Precious did frikkin amazing and brought in a great crew to back Timeca up. And Precious can be seen pretending she can play guitar in the vid ... she can't play guitar but someone hadta do it! You can find her at facebook.com/IAmPreciousJewel
What else needs ta be said? Hm, for the film/video peeps this was shot entirely on a DJI Osmo with an X5R head. My favorite thing to shoot with these days. Able to do lots of subtle floaty Steadicam-like shots, reposition, run around the club getting various angles, and really shined when Timeca walks off stage towards the camera and the subsequent dance scene.
