CTD3's Us Folk music guests

  1. It is always a good day when the likes of virtuoso players
drop in on my program , Joe Walsh on mandolin and
Michael Barnett on fiddle stopped in for a visit and did
    a number of tunes.
(Mis-spelled Mike's last name too in the clip, forgive me!)

This is a waltz. These two are members of the
    Northern Lights band ( NorthernLightsBand.com )
    a great acoustic band.

  2. April 25, 2008 was the day of the visit from two artists to the show I host each Friday on communtiy radio here in Portland, Maine the second was a great singer songwriter
hailing from the "other Portland" Oregon that is.
Here Casey tried out a new tune called Ouroboros which is
an ancient symbol depicting a serpent or dragon swallowing its own tail and forming a circular shape.
I guess in line with one beginning where one ended or the dog biting his own tail.
I had been familiar with his work, having included it in my programming over the years, I really like the quality of his voice, the ease of his delivery and loved the title track of his latest release "Brooklyn Bridge". He can rock out too. He says the Portland, Oregon scene is fertile and has an abundance of great players, definitely a place to catch him once in while with the band since he is now based there. Definitely an artist to know and watch.

  3. The name might become familiar around the "Acoustic Blues Globe" as his new release "Songs Famed for Sorrow & Joy"
out on international Canadian label (Toronto) Northern Blues
    Just out.
Samuel stopped in the studio last week and a while back in December when this was shot.
Samuel James is a music success story raised in a musical family in Maine. he has studied music and specifically the blues for years and years . His my space page is loaded with embedded vintage video clips of blues legends and masters.
besides having some really great songs of his own.

  4. Singer songwriter Tret Fure TretFure.com has 4 decades experience of music making primarily as a performer. guitarist but also as a recording engineer.

Tret had a musical start in LA so she told me in an interview March 7th, 2008 , and interesting factoid; (none other than) Lowell George (of Little Feat fame) produced her first record in the early Seventies(!). Another cool factoid about Tret; she loves community, and community radio, which she says she seeks out on the road away from home or in her Madison, Wisconsin neck of the woods.

I was first introduced to her work via her longtime musical association to Cris Williamson & from her "Changer & the Changed" album which continues on as one of those great albums with a life of it's own (released in 1975)

Tret loves love songs; be it about a relationship, a place, or a state of mind , this clip is one of those love songs that I was able to catch. it is a track from her latest disc
    "True Compass"

  5. Dana Gross ( dgrossmusic.com ) was one of four artists on this busy Us Folk March 7th, 2008, here, doing a new tune of his; "Matchsticks". He played on the show several years back in a band called Los Federales and has since gone solo. Late in 2007 he released "Pirate Love Songs" ( cdbaby.com/cd/dgross )
Dana was playing opener to Moses Atwood on this same day evening concert. He is also a tight friend to Samuel James who is caught listening in the performance room on the headphones and was slated to do a duet on Sam's CD release party concert@ Space538.org .

Soundboard out (broadcast audio) synched to clip camera sound "tossed" posted with the permission of the artist .
btw myspace.com/danagross has some tasty sonic treats from this great local artist.
