At Brighton we deliver innovation in graphic design and illustration practice with a teaching team who are made up of leading practitioners, researchers and academics who deliver research informed teaching to facilitate a culture of critical evaluation, reflection and professional application. Our impressive alumni, include It’s Nice That, Jacob Robinson Photographer / Film maker for the BBC, Millie Scarlett Davies Designer at Pentagram, Joe Miller Art Director at M&C Saatchi, Aneel Kalsi, Art Director at Wallpaper*, Kelly Satchell Designer at Wieden and Kennedy David Wilson, Crowd Talks, Matt Dent, Katie Scott, David Foldvari, Sanna Annukka, Jim Stoten, Jasper Goodall, Isabel Greenberg and Kyle Bean.
We fully support a convergent and multidisciplinary approach of the designer/illustrator as an “author, creative, innovator, producer, director and/or entrepreneur” model. Multiple forms of publishing coexist and information is accessed in a variety of ways. The studio is a laboratory, incorporating both the analogue and digital, through spatial and temporal practices. This enables students to make, explore, create, play, imagine and craft, to consider intent, refine, and undertake intellectual enquiry, critical reflection, professionalism and distinctiveness.
We facilitate students to work as multi-disciplinary practitioners, learning contemporary tools for communication and developing skills for employment but also defining the jobs of the future in visual communication, as thinking designers with responsibility.
