1. HOME is the result of a year-long, collaborative, community-focused art project that explored the effects of the housing market crash on the small city of Tracy, California. In San Joaquin County, where Tracy lies, more than 36,000 homes have been lost to foreclosure since 2006. As a former Tracy resident and short sale survivor, I was disturbed by the media’s unrelenting portrayal of foreclosure casualties as irresponsible, inept, or lacking moral character. I wanted to tell the emotional story of the crash that was missing from mainstream media. This project, funded by the Creative Work Fund/ArtPlace, was realized through interviews of 92 residents of Tracy and resulted in the poetic documentary HOME, a multi-media exhibition, and an artist catalog.

HOME is comprised of 33 voices from the project coupled with moving and still images of neighborhoods, fields, skies, and abandoned homes in Tracy. My intent for was this small city to be a stand-in for any city in America. While most characters tell only portions of their story, one character, Juan Sanchez, grounds the narrative and recounts his family’s story of home loss as seen through the eyes of a teenager.

    This is a new release.

  2. From Inhabit Your City: Voices of Tracy
Excerpts from HOME, my poetic documentary exploring the effects of the housing market crash on the Central Valley community of Tracy, CA. Through interviews of numerous residents, I came to realize viscerally (rather than cerebrally) the long-spanning time frame over which stagnating wages, underemployment, and increased competition for low-paying jobs has been affecting the middle class.
