This season the spanish stop was the last one of the tour and took place in Madrid like last year, moving to ParkCenter Valdesquí. The snowpark is managed by Oscar and Madrid is a strategic point accessible from all over Spain. The set up this year was managed by experts Yeyo and Polanco brothers, who delighted everyone with their ideas. The second zone in the middle took the most attention, it consisted of a roof wallie obstacle connected to a rail. Everyone had fun riding the event setup. There were many locals in all categories but some people from France, Portugal and even from Czech Republic (Jakob Simoner) signed up at the contest. Some hero names like Curro Santander, Mario Prestel, Pilar De La Cruz, Paula Benito Jorge Polanco, Mati Ian and some more catched all the eyes in the place.

But the main protagonist was the very bad weather we had to suffer all day long. Staff, cameramen, judges, everyone had to work super hard due to those conditions and the neither was easy for the riders. But thanks to all the crew that helped out so much, the event was a total success. The BBQ from Chef Jesus helped a little bit to keep us fed and warm against the siberian storm we had to suffer. One dude surprised the judges so he took home the best prize in the comp, Dani Tovar. He was supper happy and exited about going to Mammoth Mountains for the PBRJ World Final. There´s just left to thank everyone who help made this happen: NITRO and UNION bindings, Park Center Valdesquí, Yeyo (Happy birthday bro, we properly celebrated it), Juan and Jorge Polanco, Alvaro Ilovemyboard, Kakol, Nines, Roke, Iñigin, Pablo, Gore, Kakol, Jesus, Noelia, Morche and Abel, Maxime Bouviere, Jose del Corral (Jib Kung Do) and all participants who showed up. 2. Winter isn’t over! It made a crazy come back last weekend after a couple weeks of bluebird skies in the Alps, not easing things for the 2 Alpes shaper crew to build the Peanut Butter & Rail Jam setup for the french stop. The storm kicked in on the Saturday, and with no visibility at the snowpark, decision has been made to build everything at the bottom of the slopes for the next day event.

On the Sunday morning, the resort woke up with 30cm of fresh snow, and even if they couldn’t use the crazy features they have at the top, the crew did a good job with a basic PBRJ setup fun to ride for everyone, consisting on a down rail, a double kink and a gap to box.

The storm was hitting us full force during the event but the sun would eventually kick in for some brief moments, but it didn’t affect the motivation of all riders that made the trip to take part of this fun day.
Different crew from Vars, Isola, Chartreuse valley, Poland, Estonia, Italy made it to Les 2 Alpes and even a team from Holland drove all the way from Amsterdam, getting stucked in some mountain pass due to a mean GPS (this must have happen to everyone at least once).

Needless to say, everyone was hyped and rode their best while Smithys tavern was cooking burgers and dogs, check out clips and photos to get an idea, the day was fun.

    A few highlights:

Loads of PBRJ regulars showed up such as Tom Picamoles, Remy Trehand or even Joshua Pires and Marten Kikas from abroad.

Anne Sophie Lechon killed it, won the Girls division and was on the line to get the trip to Mammoth for the PBRJ Championships but Joshua Pires made such an impression that the judges had to give him the ticket.
It was Boris birthday (owner of the infamous Avalanche Nightclub) that day and his sons rode super good, Arthur Ney winning the 16-21 division while Oscar taking 6th in the 15 and under.
Young Italian Ian Matteoli is really small, can do gap fs boardslides, rides a board as long as a skate deck, he took 2nd in the 15 and under.

There is way more check out the captions to get more…

Everyone went home with a big smile and some prizes thanks to our partners Union Bindings and Nitro Snowboards and the day ended at Smithys for Volcom newest film “True To This” première and loads of refreshments, needless to say that after that the Avalanche was the place to be, making the Monday a perfect hangover day to ride some fresh snow while the sun was back.

Thanks to everyone that helped make this contest a success:
Tourism office, Smithys Tavern, Avalanche, Remi and David from Act magazine, Yannick Amevet and the Volcom Store Les 2 Alpes, David Combier, Mathieu Gustobal, Sylvain and the snowpark shaper crew, and Mr Genepi.

  3. What a day! Last weekend, the PBRJ Austria went down at the Kitzsteinhorn in Kaprun. Despite a shitty weather forecast, predicting heavy winds from midday onwards, the event was sun-drenched and only later on, as the tents were already packed, the wind kicked in.

Volcom is a proud sponsor of the Kitzsteinhorn snowparks and this partnership allowed this years PBRJ to feature one of the most remarkable set ups.

With a steep and fast “in run” riders had the choice whether to go straight on the stair set to hit the double kinked rail or make use of the two elbow rails positioned to the shoulders of the stair set.

The riders could also just gap the first part of the elbow either straight onto the barrel or the down rail.
The park also pulled a preregistration liftpass small price, 10€ only for the day on the hill! At the end of the day, many shred heads from all over Europe found their way to the glacier in order to rocket launch their tricks down the set.

With a moderate participation in the under 15 category the decision was made that Martin Kikas deserves the first place, for Martin showed some serious commitment and rode almost every obstacle to the fullest. In the category 16-21 the Austrian Nitro Team Rider Dominik Sobe got his tricks together in the most fashionable way and therefore landed safe and sound on the first place. During the girls heat, judges were involuntarily bluffing their cheeks as the girls recklessly sticked their tricks on the double kinked rail. Sabrina Burnham from the Uk presented the most constant riding/best tricks and thus stepped in front when the first place was announced.
The open division boosted the most riders by far and therefore two qualification heats were hold. All riders were highly motivated to give the judges a proper eyeball massage. Especially a small group of Dutch/Belgian riders emerged from their Snowhall breeding grounds in the lowlands and keenly waxed the rails with their boards. But also the local riders brought their bag of tricks to the PBRJ Austria and happily unfolded the treasures they had collected during their laps at the glacier. However, in the end no one else but the German chap Chris Böhnke (Nitro) cleared the roughest tricks in every area, and therefore was supplied with 250€ and the first place in the Open Division, Big props to Chris comboing 2 PBRJ titles and a 4 th place this season. Dylan Norder, won the best performance of the day and will fly to Mammoth Mountain for the 2014 PBRJ Championships. Meneer Norder is a Dutch ripper with a bag full of creative tricks that blew away the judges, he didn’t win the event but got rewarded the trip to Mammoth mountain.

After a brief Monster “Cash For Tricks Session” at the double kinked rail, the happening was coming to end and the predicted winds finally picked up.

It was a great day for everyone and the whole organisation on location was going super smooth.
After the event, the riders were invited to join the premiere of the Volcom “True To This” Movie in the Greens XL in Zell am See, organized in cooperation with the local Snow & Skateshop La Resistance.

The Afterparty was going straight through the roof and paid tribute to an awesome day and an epic movie.
To sum it up the PBRJ Austria was a blast! Congrats to all the winners and all riders who had as much fun as we had. Many thanks go out to Christian Hörl and his shaper crew who created this massive set up and of course to every helping hand who participated in managing the contest with an massive afterparty.

Last but not least a big shout out to our sponsors for their support:
Nitro Snowboards, Union Bindings and Monster Energy.

  4. After days and days of blue bird skies, the morning of the Peanut Butter & Rail Jam just arouse miserably grey. It was snowing heavy wet kitchen cloths from the sky. It was rather challenging this year to build up the obstacle set-up, due weeks and weeks of positive temperature, the base of the slope was very soft with only a little bit snow left. So we decided to use a flat down double rail combo, long down rail and double pipe rail with a little kink at the end. The setup was rather challenging for the little ones to maintain speed due the wet sticky snow so the combo was left out of the 15 and under division and replaced with a rainbow box. The hike was pretty long to get enough speed so we decided to do bigger heats to keep the competition interesting for the crowd and the judges.

The 15 and under –division showed the true colors of young bloods in Finland today and presented a spectacular riding hitting all the obstacles and giving the good to the viewers. Almost all the riders who made it to the top 5 had been in the PBRJ’s before, so it wasn’t their first time in the rodeo. Pekka Eskola from Lahti landed his tricks the most solidly out of all the riders and rode himself to the highest podium. Talented Saska Halmes defended his second place from last year and Eevert Holma snatched the third place.

The 16-21 division showed fantastic riding with some sick skills. Some of the riders competed in 15 and under division last year, but now moved up to the older division. The competition was tight and wasn’t a rookie tour for sure. Talented young man Damon Beckford, who’s killing it on the street spots, won the division. The second became 2013 Peanut Butter Rail Jam Euro champ Tim Vanari. The third was Kasper Granroth with solid riding and landed tricks.

Girls were only six due to an overlapping girls event, but that didn’t matter cause they served us a final on silver platter. Young Sara Säkkinen, a lady with few words but crazy talent, showed us some real progression and turned her last years fifth place to this year’s numero uno (1st). Beautiful Suvi Suitiala with her beautiful style of riding was second. Bad ass street rail chick Kristiina Nyman made her way to the podium with her third place. Vilina Koivisto who landed THE back flip last year in PBRJ finals was fourth. Our lovely family rider Silja Suitala was took on the fifth place.

The Open division was something else. During the heat, all riders were stomping a large panel of tricks using all three obstacles of the setup. We saw some crazy gapping to the flat down combo with 270 in and 50-50’s gapping 360’s out with a grabs too. The crowd was hyped and cheering loudly. And even our MC Jukkis Tyllinen, was put out speechless by some of the tricks. Jukka Tyni, who was injured last year, got some new pop in his knees this year and landed his gaps and 270’s so solid that the judges scored him first. Joel Ahola, with his mad skills and smooth style became second but also landed the Best Trick for himself for the second year in a row. This year Joel blew us away with back side 360 gap 50-50 to the combo rail. And Tatu Toivanen was third with almost the same score as Joel. Sebastian Naumanen and Santeri Uimonen were the fourth and fifth. Lasse Ihalainen, 2012 Euro PBRJ champs was also praised by the judges but was slightly injured didn’t make it to the top five.

Everyone had tons of fun at the event, got their hands on free gear and great barbeque. Everyone got some free goodies to go home with. After all the people made the event so much fun no-one minded the wet kitchen cloths pouring from the sky. Many old and new friends showed up to watch and cheer.

We would like to send our special thanks to the staff of Serena Ski and extra special to Lauri, the Slope Manager and man with a magic touch to the groomer. He really can make wonders happen with the groomer.

Big thanks to every single person who showed up in the shitty weather to watch and compete! Thanks to our judges Anssi Paatero, who participated last year and ended up with a concussion, glad to have you back this time sitting tight in judge’s chair, Jesse Ropponen who’s just overall great guy and fair judge and Petrus Koskinen, our family rider transformed into judge for the event. We’d like to thank Matti “Naali” Ollilla, the video wizard, for making outstanding video out the fun day and of course Arto “Hippi” Ekman for great photos. Jukkis Tyllinen the man with the mic, thanks for joining our gang again. And big bow to all Off Consult staff, the sponsors Nitro and Union and Volcom peeps for making this happen. Watch out everyone, the Finns are taking over US in the Peanut Butter & Rail Jam finals in Mammoth Mountain.

  5. Volcom Peanut Butter Rail Jam blowed up this year in Białka Tatrzańska on Kotelnica last weekend. The event took place at the snow park and it was bulls eye shot !!! We gathered over a hundred snowboarders form Poland and Slovakia and everyone had a blast !
Weather was on our side and helped us to run one of the best snow events in Poland this year !! It was all day sunny and warm, with a fun set up well prepared by the shapers, everything to get people totally hyped to start the jams.

After registration we started the main course and jibbers rocked out the spot. Our friends from snow park crew – Park Pirates built strong street style setup with plenty fun features! Big thanks to them for their great job! Regarding sound supply we need to thanks Red Bull guys for taking care about music and good vibe! Dj was playing all the time electrifying songs and hyping up our audience! Of course we fired up BBQ and served tons of sausage and peanut butter with jam sandwiches.

We started with the girls division, and with around 20 girls in, the riding level was very high! The beautiful riders made a good mess on the spot , and pushed some nice and mellow tricks on the pyramid and PCV pipes !! Big congrats to our Slovakian friends –Dominika Kralikova, Martina Droppova and Macia Molnarova for taking 3 first place in girls division and shows super technical riding and so solid skills!!

In the 15 and under the competition was also heavy!! The youngest did some nice tricks on all obstacles. It was tight battle but the best impression and scores gave Marcin Kilar to the top of the podium, Janek Jaromin took the the second place, he is still really small but very talented snowboarder! High five to all young shotguns for the nice show !!

Going through the day We fired 16 and over division. It was most crowded group that contains almost 40 riders !!! Real madness !! Guys took the competition serious and were ripping bangers all the time with cab to board, nosepresses, lips !! They shredded all obstacles but the most popular one was the Pyramid rail. At the top of podium Lukas Droppa earned his place with smooth and confident style ! Behind him Were Igor Macak and Kacper Gruszka.

The day finished with the Open division!!! It was as always the most impressive and solid riding! On a line up we had top of Polish jibbers like Wojtek “Gniazdo” Pawlusiak, Mateusz Zielonka, Nikodem Franczak, Maciek Długosz and a heavy strong crew of our neighbors from Slovakia !!

They were bombing every obstacle , ripping the kink with wall ride and Pyramid from every angle. It was a show of perfect rotations, style and flow. Judges didn’t have any hesitation with the first place – it had to be Julo Petrik from Slovakia ! His style was soft and perfect , he probably did the best trick of the event with a 450 lip on a the Pyramid rail.

Second on the box was Nikodem Franczak , riding so solid and smooth. His technical skills are so dope! Nice job Nixon!!!

Third on the podium stood our Polish Volcom team rider Maciek “Długi” Długosz showing his outstanding jibbing skills and fun making backflips out the rails, Congratulations for Maciek , we are super stoked about his result !!

There were a lot of prizes for riders including cash money in open and nice goods as well ! It was perfect day full of good snowboarding and chilling time ! We are waiting for PBRJ 2015 !!

At the and We want to send big thanks to all people who help us in preparations, to Park Pirates for set up, Kotelnica Ski Resort for space, Red Bull crew for music and energy during the event, our partners: Skullcandy (eu.skullcandy.com/), GoPro (fr.gopro.com/), GForm (g-form.com/), Dakine (eu.dakine.com/) for extra prizes and official sponsors Nitro (nitrousa.com/fr) and Union Bindings (unionbindingcompany.com/) for all goods !
