Last winter in the northern alps was a sad story indeed. Man made snow at best. However, those with minimum insight into meteorology & history did not despair.. All you had to do was follow the path of Hannibal when crossing the alps, and voilà, you were rewarded with a snow pack up to 5 meters deep. Volcom riders DBK (aka Danger Dave/David Bertschinger Karg) and Markus Keller from Switzerland always do their homework, thus not only did they escape the crowds, but scored epic powder days week after week.
Here's a little insight into a hard day at work from last Jan/Feb. If riding powder is your path AND destination, then Volcom's Guide Proven Technology gear is just what you need. Dave and Markus refuse to wear anything else. Product worn by the boys in this edit can be seen here: volcom.eu/news/somewhere-in-the-southern-alps-king-winter-had-a-feast
Watch our Swedish snowboarder Kire do what he does best; Attacking urban installations somewhere way above the Arctic Circle. Up here men are men, Polar Bears are hungry and the women, in spite of wearing 7 layers of clothing, are as hot as they come: vol.cm/1pKxT22
Summer ain't what summer is supposed to be.. Scorching hot up in Scandalnavia but either pissing down or, for the most part, Chernobyl-grey in the rest of of Europe. It's been so cold and wet around the Alps that folks have been riding pow up on the glaciers all thru summer.. And, with no solid swell forecast on the horizon, why not go ride some frozen water instead?
Speaking of which, here's a clip of Arthur Longo and friends doing just that, up in Les 2 Alpes. Get your mates together & run to the hills. Les 2 Alpes is open until early September and there's nobody around anymore. If the weather refuses to collaborate, there's downhill cycling and just about 10001 other things to do up there.

A Feature Film Celebrating America's First Boarding Company.
When Volcom was founded in 1991, it was the first company to combine
skateboarding, surfing and snowboarding under one brand from its
inception. This way of life influenced the anti-establishment style and
attitude that defined a generation. The cultural phenomenon was best
captured when Volcom released "Alive We Ride" in 1993: a film documenting
the raw excitement and spontaneous creativity inherent to the lifestyle.
Twenty-one years later, with the release of "True To This", Volcom again
captures the energy and artistry of board-riding in its purest forms.
Shot all around the world and showcasing iconic athletes, "True To This"
is a tribute to the movement that inspired a generation and the people
and places that embody that spirit today.
Sunday march 16 we hit Iron Snowpark, in the snow resort of Foppolo, for our Volcom Snow BBQ. The day was perfect, bluebird sky and super sun. Just in time to start up the grill with some good “salamella” and to dress up the park with some stones and we were ready for some “bag for tricks” games. We just pulled out, with the friends who came in, few basic tricks to try on the snowpark section, in order to honor the very best ones. We started from a nose press on a down rail till a bs 3 tail grab on the kicker, passing through the evergreen method air we decided to pull on the spine, the spot our friends seemed to like most. It’s been such a perfect day with everyone happy to be there, doing and sharing what we love to. We’d like to thank Iron Snowpark, Gianni & the Newschoolcrew, Johnny & DVP, Pit On and the Funky boys. You really rocked guys.
See you next time with a grill near to you.
