Katja* loved school and was busy working on getting her degree in accounting. She was almost finished with her education when an opportunity for a summer job arose in Greece.
It was the perfect opportunity to make enough money to cover the rest of her school fees and finish her education. She accepted the offer and traveled to Greece.
Upon arrival, two men picked her up. They drove her to an apartment that she believed was going to be her home for the summer. It wasn’t until the men locked the door behind her, that she realized she was in danger.
Katja was gang raped and abused for weeks. She lost track of time, whether it was morning or evening. She was exhausted and beaten down.
She was then sold and moved to different cities and islands, never staying in one place long enough to even know where she was. She was in a hopeless situation.
Two years went by before she found an opportunity and the courage to escape. From there she was brought into one of our shelters.
After receiving help and support in the A21 shelter, she was able to return to her home country where she is back in school and working to complete her degree.
Katja is a hard worker and she has top grades in all her subjects. She is now experiencing sweet freedom!
