Waiheke TV began as a Ministry of Social Development funded training programme to give creative youth on some experience and showreel to access further training and work. During 2002 and 2003, two short courses trained about 20 people how to shoot and edit video stories using minimal kit - handycams and computers, effectively 'desktop television'.

During these few months of workshops, over 100 mostly 2 - 5 minute video stories were produced on local culture. These ran at the Waiheke Community Cinema as shorts before the main feature, and for a short time on some of the ferry sailings. The Cinema took the project on board allowing for further mentoring and incentives.
Rotary pitched in also, as did some experienced film makers.

Since that time a local video culture has continued to flourish with more movie makers celebrating Waiheke community, giving voice to issues etc

Most of the stories on this channel date back to the original workshops about 10 yrs ago, some are more recent.
The videos present in alphabetical order, click on 'videos' under Browse Channel' options on rhs of page, to get thumbnails.

If anyone is profiled in these clips and they really don't want the clip to be available for public viewing, please contact me and I'll remove it from the channel. My interest has been in archiving all these stories by getting them off tape and into a digital format b4 the tape degrades and they are lost. Cheers Baz 021 464406
