Zach is standing in front of the exhibit and the images go all over the place, we learn that he has taken some heavy acid and needs to sit down. Laura's parents arrive and offer to buy a painting, they meet Pit and are joined by Curtis. Laura's mom, Constance, asks Curtis if he is like Steven Spielberg or Ron Howard, Curtis explains that he's more like Sam Peckinpah, The Wild Bunch, Convoy, with Kris Kristofferson, but pleads a case for Straw Dogs. Laura's dad, Dennis, chimes in for the Ballad of Cable Hogue and the two talk film. Angela encourages patrons to support local art so that Walmart doesn't dictate how we decorate our homes, she asks Zach if he wants a drink, her image distorts and becomes a psychedelic rooster, Zach screams uncontrollably as Angela runs away. Heather guesses Laura's sign based on her work, Amy comments that it has muscle and tells Pit to not let her get away. Dennis and Rock are hanging out. Curtis asks Mike if he can shoot his movie in the bar, not a porno, and Mike agrees to let him use a back booth for auditions. Episode 5 Potluck. There's a special occasion in the bar! It's the annual potluck and Shannon is getting the space ready, Angela shows up late bringing a neatly packaged dish, she asks where Mike is and learns that he is at home smoking a whole pig and it's not quite ready. Angela then comments on the lack of anything remotely healthy, fried chicken, hot dogs, potato chips, and how she can't eat any of it, Shannon reassures her that she brought a veggie tray but no one is for certain if it is organic or not. Curtis enters and eats a chicken leg which causes Angela to become grossed out. Rock appears with a crock pot full of chili and explains to Angela how every ingredient comes from his very own garden, without chemicals because he's a natural man, curious, Angela agrees to try a bowl, while inspecting it's contents she notices meat, Rock explains that you can't make chili without hamburger and that's his chili is world famous, Angela realizes her nice bonding moment with Rock has just ended. Pit brings an entire plate of pot brownies, Zach, sensing drugs in the bar instantly appears but is told the goods are to be shared with everyone and he agrees to eat only one of the laced treats. Jackson notices that Pit is flying solo and asks Dylan if he's spoken to Laura lately, Dylan explains that she posted something on her facebook wall saying people shouldn't unburden their feelings in improper settings and that he's the king of bad timing. The trekkie brings a cellular peptide cake with mint frosting inspired by the star trek the next generation episode Phantasms, where Counselor Troi manifests as a cake in Data's dream, only to be slightly eaten by Worf. Angela is confused by all of this and questions Zach about her weirdness, in turn he tells her that if you perform the klingon mating ritual that she'll fuck your brains out, then Zach empties the plate of marijuana brownies into his shirt. Dylan and Jackson notice that The Axe is now part of the potluck, The Axe is the local rock god and his band has just returned from a lengthy tour, The Axe has brought a strange concoction he calls Drummer's Brew and is explaining to Pit and Curtis just how it works. Cup, ice, strongest coffee in the world, pour it over the ice and slam it, Pit gives it a go and is instantly in caffeine heaven, he believes Zach needs to try one and goes about looking for him, instead he bumps into Dylan and apologizes, Dylan mutters something under his breath which causes Pit to return and question him about it, Dylan denies saying anything and Pit introduces himself. Jackson warns Dylan not to mess with Pit. Curtis finds The Axe up at the bar and asks if he'll do the soundtrack for his movie, something throwback, old school, like Bernard Herrmann in Taxi Driver, The Axe relates it to Cybill Shepherd and the saxophone. Pit finds Zach stoned out of his mind by the bathroom and drags him away to get a drummers brew, The Axe pours it up and Zach immediately becomes hooked and wants more. Laura and some dude enter the bar, Shannon tells a tale about last years potluck where someone brought in a dead turtle and everyone ate it with barbecue sauce. Zach continues to get loaded on the brew, The Axe tries to convince Angela to try one but she doesn't drink folgers, he eventually gets Dylan to slam one which causes Laura to cheer him on, Jackson isn't quite sure what advice to give. Pit notices Laura and lives in a somber motion. Laura and her cousin Adam approach Dylan, Dylan and Laura end up walking off together. The Axe notices the stuff has gone dry, he opts to leave and find some action, Zach tags along. Zach ends up in a coffee shop and orders a drummers brew.

Episode 6 The Audition. Curtis and his three filmmaker cohorts are holding an audition for their upcoming independent film, Curtis makes a remark as to the quality of the camera Max is using, Russ informs him that the sign up sheet and sides are available for the actors, then lets him know that the Trekkie is her to read lines. Trekkie introduces herself as Kathryn Janeway and proceeds to read the opening to Star Trek The Next Generation in a over the top theatrical way, everyone is a bit taken aback, Curtis reminds her of the Ferengi seventh rule of acquistion to always keep her ears open. The day proceeds slowly and since nobody else has shown up, Russ convinces Curtis to give it one more go with Shannon and talk her into being in the movie. Shannon is clearly put off as she's already told Curtis no on more than one occassion, Curtis persists and finally gets her to take a look at the script. Shannon comments on the character Mary, and questions why she's such a bitch, turns down the role yet again. Curtis goes into full on desperation mode and gives a speech about his love for cinema and how he can't do it alone, he begs Shannon to give him a chance, touched and surprised, Shannon finally agrees. Curtis sort of brags to Russ, that Shannon is in and it was a piece of cake, Russ is very skeptical. Brett interrupts with a potential actor, Troy, the pink taco dude has arrived and would like to audition. Troy mentions that he's never acted before but had the idea that acting in a movie might help get him laid and that's why he's here, Curtis appreciates his honesty and gives him the script with the intent of reading for the part of Marcus. Troy gives it his best shot but isn't satisfied with his performance, Curtis asks him if he'd like to try something different, Troy then goes into his usual routine of picking up women causing the entire crew to clap in approval. Curtis proclaims that he's found the essence of Marcus, Troy inquires if Marcus ever actually gets a girl and his acceptance of the part hinges on that detail, Curtis suggests that maybe it could be written in, then mutters to himself where's Willem Dafoe when I need him as Troy walks out. Curtis approaches Rock at the bar and let's him know there is a part he would be perfect for. Rock declines as he's already been in a movie, in 1973 Rock was an extra in the town in Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid and that he got to meet Bob Dylan and has a picture with himself, Dylan and the director Sam Peckinpah. Curtis is almost in shock as Peckinpah is his favorite director of all time, so it means that Rock definitely has to be in his picture now, Rock wonders, what's in it for him? Curtis is ready to give him anything, Rock replies that all he wants is for Curtis to come over and hang out at his house. Curtis quickly agrees, Rock raises the stakes and wants him to come over 30 times in the next year for a minimum of four hours, Curtis and Rock then get into a bargaining match and eventually settle for a lesser sentence. Back at the audition, Heather walks by and asks what's going on, Curtis gives a brief description and she lets him know that she doesn't like the title, it's something a film school professor might jerk off to, but he should keep it simple, the name explains it all, they come up with the title Dive Bar and everyone agrees it's correct. Nobody else has shown up to audition and the guys decide it's time to pack it up as they told the owner they would be out of there by seven, Max isn't quite ready though as he notices someone sitting up at the bar that would look really good on camera, Amy, the sort of dangerous punk rock chick is all alone, no one has the balls to go talk to her, Russ eventually encourages Brett to give it a shot. He soon returns with Amy and Curtis asks if she knows about the 1985 Martin Scorsese film After Hours. She responds with Mohawk Night. She then plays out the club Berlin scene. Curtis is amazed and before he knows it she's doing the Travis Bickle scene from Taxi Driver, you talkin' to me? The crew is now really blown away while Amy casually excuses herself which causes Max to comment about how much of a bad ass she is. The audition is officially over and the group is now up at the bar celebrating with a drink and reminiscing about how the day actually didn't turn out that bad and it somehow all came together. Just as they cheers and drink to dive bar, Rock approaches and a

Episode 7 Aliens and Boners. Zach is hanging out at the bar looking dejected, Mike asks him what's up? Zach explains that Pit is late and is bringing him some DMT, it seems Zach made a promise to an alien stripper named Barbara. Mike becomes entranced by the story of the spirit molecule and asks Pit how the drug works, Pit isn't much help and it only increases Mike's curiosity. Angela approaches and asks for two beers, Mike then asks her if she's ever had a visitation with a being from outer space, he explains how aliens only visit people who are a little off to begin with, she responds maybe that's how it works and sets up an instant defense mechanism, Rock chimes in how he's been visited by aliens from all over. Pit has made contact with his dealer and tells Zach he will get him the psychedelic compound. Dylan and Laura are having one of their first real dates up at the bar, further discussing a future date when Mike approaches and asks them their thoughts on aliens, he doesn't give them a chance to respond and elaborates about dating an alien and canadian women. Seeking more sound answers Mike finds himself with the Trekkie. She explains to him about the prime directive and how aliens will reveal themselves to us when we are ready, Mike initially likes her response but then questions how authentic it is to real life versus Star Trek. The trekkie explains the prime directive in further detail. Zach is pacing the bar waiting for Pit to return. Mike goes on a rant about aliens discussing everything from the movie Mars Attacks to Jerry being plucked from an office meeting. Pit arrives and is empty handed but he did score some viagra, he asks Zach to help him crush some of it up. Pit approaches Dylan and Laura and spots a naked guy running in front of the bar which allows him to slip powdered viagra into Dylan's drink, Pit pretends like he doesn't know Dylan and walks away. Zach is still depressed and Pit makes an offer to dose someone else's drink, Zach chooses Rock. Rock is having problems with his microwave, Pit doses him. This seems to cheer up Zach a little and he snorts a line of viagra off the bar. Laura wants popcorn but Dylan is now feeling the effects of the viagra, he reluctantly gets up. Jackson approaches and notices his erection, on his way back a girl hits on him while Pit lurks in the background. Rock stands in the middle of the bar with a hard on. Zach is with Mike, he has a boner and the Trekkie approaches telling him that Barbara will still see him if he performs a task to prove his worth. Mike takes out the trash and is abducted by aliens.

Episode 8. Fuck Oliver Stone. Curtis and his crew are making a movie in the bar. Max and Brett are setting up the craft service table and wondering where it should go, they decide to ask Curtis who gets annoyed at their question, he's not interested in people getting their potato chip fix, the two lament on whether Alfred Hitchcock had to set up his own craft service table. Curtis explains to Max that the first shot is going to be just like the opening of Boogie Nights except it won't have an establishing shot because those are for cowards. The film is loaded into the super 8 camera and Curtis begins to pan across the bar, he ends on Shannon and the film rolls out. Brett googles super 8 to realize a cartridge only last 2 minutes and 46 seconds. The crew decides to have a meeting. Russ asks if they can just merge the film with digital, Max makes reference to Oliver Stone and Natural Born Killers. Brett prefers Born on the Fourth of July. Max uses Lars Von Trier as an argument and finally Luis Bunuel as encouragement. The crew decides to shoot their film digital. Max removes the super 8 camera and replaces it with a sony digital camera and now dive bar will be shot all hand held. Russ is looking for a girl named Jessica, Brett informs him that it's the Star Trek Girl. On set, Jessica sits next to Troy, he asks is she has a boyfriend and tells Curtis he's just trying to get into character, rushed, the crew marches forward. After slating the scene, Brett walks away and is approached by an onlooker who asks what movie is this? Brett doesn't like the question because it really doesn't make any sense, what do you mean what movie is this? He finally tells him it's called dive bar but by that time the two have gotten on each others nerves, the guy threatens to give dive bar one star on IMDB. Rock is standing around Amy and Heather, he invites them over to his place, Amy pulls off her wig and says he put his disease in me from Blue Velvet, Heather makes a headache excuse, just then Curtis yells cut and we realize it's a scene from the movie being filmed, Rock complains that his character seems like a fucking loser. Curtis calls for the martini shot and Rock proclaims shots at my place everyone! Sound is rolling but their are people talking, Curtis approaches and asks them politely if they can be quiet for two minutes, they refuse and he eventually threatens to throw them out of a window if they talk. He walks back to set and just as the camera rolls the talking dude yells shit your pants. Curtis grabs the tripod and chases them out of the bar. Curtis and Max make up and the picture is wrapped for the day, Brett hands out call sheets and they agree to go watch the dailies. Max and Brett are cleaning up the craft service table and Brett questions what to do with it, Max explains that they're making a movie and there are no rules, inspired, Brett stashes the table under a pool table. The crew is watching the dailies and seem pleased. The guy from before is now on IMDB searching for dive bar, he keeps hitting refresh in hopes of handing out that one star rating. Living in Oblivion. Barton Fink. 8 1/2. Day for Night. Ed Wood.
