Wheelhouse

  1. "Take on the World " is from the early part of the "Wheelhouse" story-line, prior to the band's decision to purchase the used RV. A 2004 version of this song also available on this Vimeo channel.

Recorded at the January 2013 performance at the Coffee with Conscience concert series in Westfield NJ. Thanks to Kevin Lancaster for the stage left camera footage.

  2. A husband and wife (and band mates) share their widely different views on touring the country in an RV. A great and very funny tune.

  3. While Val indicates that "Open Roads" is the opening song from Wheelhouse, it was in fact not the opening song when the musical eventually premiered in 2012. The long-time GrooveLily favorite "Can You Believe" served that role. "Open Roads" was pushed several songs into the show to the point in the plot where the band had purchased the RV.

The band performed at the Underground Concerts Series at the Maplewood, NJ several times (three I believe) in the 2000s, with this April 2008 performance in Middle School auditorium.being the latest.

  4. This July 2004 Minstrel Coffeehouse appearance was probably one of the first performances of material from the still in development musical "Wheelhouse". Sorry for the single camera shoot for this song, but if I recall the second camera had a really bad angle on Gene.

This was an outdoor performance in the courtyard of the Morris County Parks Cultural Center. New Jersey's own John Taglieri opened.

  5. This 2004 Minstrel Coffeehouse appearance was probably one of the first performances of material from the still in development musical "Wheelhouse". In addition to "Take on the World", there is a snip-it of another Wheelhouse song, "Giving It All Away ", in this recording, See the 2013 recording of this song for a more mature version, which includes Val's violin parts.

A collection of fan-based recordings of songs from the GrooveLily semi-autobiographical musical "Wheelhouse". While the world premiere of Wheelhouse was in June 2012 at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts (produced by TheatreWorks) the band has been performing Wheelhouse songs at its live gigs since the mid-2000s.

Plot Synopsis: "In a comically touching ode to the road, a traveling rock band cuts back on expenses, hitting the highway in a well-worn Winnebago. When their plan backfires with a bang, it threatens the sweet harmonies that hold them together." For more info see: groovelily.com/musicals/wheelhouse/
