William (Bill) has been described by Sir David Attenborough as “Australia’s greatest living scientific painter of birds – possibly the best in the world.” He was recorded in part of an Attenborough film in 1993 ‘Portrait Painter to the Birds’
and has a large following globally as well in Australia.

I am currently working on a full length documentary that will follow Bill as he opens the doors of his art studio in Far North Queensland, inviting us to share his techniques and processes as he begins to create 30 new scientifically accurate works for a new exhibition.

His journey takes us from the bush to the ocean as he researches the creatures for his paintings. The film will record the research journeys, actual techniques, thought processes and technical application of colour and paint leading up to the final works. But with an extremely high global reputation for accuracy and perfection that needs to be maintained, and with a personal mantra that each new work must be better than his last, this is no easy call for the now 78 year young artist. With around a year to complete the works he will be at his easel full time for over a year.

The film culminates in the exciting 4 day exhibition, to be held in his birthplace of Newcastle, at the Morpeth Gallery where 20 years ago his last exhibition sold out within an hour. His ultimate delight will be to see the finished works hanging on the buyers walls.
