  2. Cowslip was admitted here at Willows Hedgehog Rescue with severe head trauma.

She had to undergo intensive care, medication and initial supportive hand feeding as she could not sit upright or feed for herself.

She after successful treatment and rehabilitation was released first into a secure garden for monitoring and finally on 21st July 2014 was released into the wild.

Here she is collecting nesting material post release.

  3. We often get asked here at Willows Hedgehog Rescue.. 'should I leave food out for visiting hedgehogs, and if yes what should I leave out?'.

Well the simple answer is yes please. Food and Water left out for hedgehogs really does make a difference and in this video I look at different types of food, what to leave it out in and how to keep it dry and cat poof!

  4. The litter we called the Dwarves came in at under 100grams, covered in fly-strike and maggots and with internal worms to top it all off.

One had to be put to sleep as the maggots were eating it from the inside and one was too weak to cope with the worms and meds.

The remaining four are all now around the 400gram mark and have just moved into an outdoor run to gain their final weight before release..

  5. An update on the litter of hoglets that came in covered in fly strike and half the weight they should be at around three weeks old.

They have now moved on from the initial re-hydration fluids to get their little bodies functioning again but we are still having to take it slowly so as to not overload them even though they are so under weight.

Three are feeding really well and are quite active, one is still quite wobbly compared to the others and is receiving additional attention.

Ecologist, Ranger by day & co-run Willows Hedgehog Rescue with my better half Jayne.

Videos documenting a very small number of the hedgehogs that are rescued by us hopefully raising awareness of the issues faced by hedgehogs and the work of rescuers of which there are many dedicated people who work tirelessly and unpaid in this country and throughout the world.

Willows Hedgehog Rescue is a not for profit charitable wildlife rescue specialising in European Hedgehogs ran by ourselves from our home. We rescue injured, ill & orphaned european hedgehogs providing medical care and attention, rehabilitation and release back into the wild. The hospital area houses up to fifty patients at any one time and we take in up to eighty hedgehogs with a network of foster carer volunteers who provide accomodation for any needing to gain weight after treatment has finished if we exceed the hospital area capacity..

These are short videos from ourselves at Willows Hedgehog Rescue documenting some of the work we do. Hedgehogs & wildlife in general is in trouble. Hedgehog populations have plummeted due to many reasons from changes in countryside management, urbanisation & gardes becoming less suitable.

I hope that by watching these videos people will foster a love for our native european hedgehog and an interest in wildlife in general.
