This is a short promotional video for my non-profit "Mike Elliott, Windsor" channel on You-Tube https://www.youtube.com/user/windsorwindowON/videos .
Windsor continues to make all V8 engines for the Ford Motor Company. The 5.0 litre, fuel efficient engine is used in all Shelby Mustangs, select Mustangs and the very popular F-150 truck. Total production numbers range to near 1000 engines a day.
Also in Windsor, Chrysler Canada is the world home of the Dodge Caravans. These vehicles are so popular Windsor is working three shifts a day and can barely keep up with the huge demand.
A large spike in attendees was registered for the Remembrance Day ceremonies at the cenotaph in downtown Windsor this year. Young people were seen in droves as it is believed they are more interested in Remembrance Day activities especially after the recent loss of a local soldier who was fighting for Canada in Afghanistan. This year's attendance was greeted with sunny, clear-blue skies and milder temperatures than normal.
George Beurling was the only Canadian FIRED from the Second World War. Have you ever heard of that, someone being fired from a war? How can that be?
At the war's onset Beurling was rejected by the Royal Canadian Air Force's recruiting team even though he was an experienced pilot (at that point in time, he had been the youngest Canadian to hold a flying licence). Beurling insisted on flying so he worked his way over to England on a frieghter-ship to join the Royal Air Force. He had to do this twice as he had forgotten his birth certificate the first time. After becoming a fighter-pilot 'Ace' with the R.A.F., Canada then wanted him back. England had to oblige to it's ally and the Royal Canadian Air Force quickly took Beurling out of the war and sent him back home to sell war bonds. Beuling despised this tactic and was fired two years before the war had ended. George Frederick Beurling rode out the rest of the war flying cargo planes over northern Quebec. Trans Canada Airlines, predecessor of the, now, 'Air Canada', refused to hire him for fear of Beurling's well-cried but unjust reputation. He and his brother then started a business in Dorval, Quebec of a type where he would take interested individuals up for a flight with 'Canada's Top War Ace of WWII'. That business venture only lasted briefly however as Transport Canada shut him and his operation down due to an unauthorized aircraft and aviation procedure being illegally in service. In need of gainful employment, George then decided to go back to war, in 1948, three years after the Second-World-War had already ended, as he signed up as a mercenary pilot flying for the Israeli Air Force in the Israeli-Arabic conflict of that time. On his way to the war zone and while ferrying a fighter plane, along with another mercenary pilot, he had to land in Rome to refuel. After taking off from Rome and reaching a certain altitude his plane exploded. Though the crash was never expertly investigated, it is widely believe the Red Army (a rebel group in Italy that was allied to the Arab cause, at the time) planted an altimeter-bomb in Beuling's aircraft, killing both pilots. Italian authorities were considerate enough to give George Beuling a full hero's burial. His remains have since been exhumed and re-interred, not in Canada, but in Israel, in honour of Israel's respect of Beurling's full intensions to help out that country in it's war effort. As a Canadian and with this video I am expressing my sincere sorrow and distain over my country's actions regarding this rare and gifted individual. George Beurling was and will always be my (unsung) Canadian hero. In death, George has finally found a country he can truly call home (.. or has he?). Israel is a democratic country which acknowledges and respects Beurling's life's accomplishments and full intentions - something Canada has failed to do. In life we take the good with the bad. War is a bad thing but something we often have to deal with and, unfortunately, be involved in. When we march off to war, we march off, not to die, but to win! Could George have been guilty of this?
(I say, "BRING HIS ASHES HOME WHERE THEY BELONG AND RESOLVE THIS CANADIAN DILEMMA, ONCE AND FOR ALL, OTHERWISE THIS COUNTRY WILL CONTINUE TO LIVE WITH A DARK SECRET, A PRIME MINISTER MACKENZIE KING SHAME, FOREVERMORE !!"
NOTE: Kennedy Collegiate High-School is visible at the beginning of the video, located at the eastern outter-fringes of Jackson Park. Since the 'Castle' was built during the late 1920's, it most-likely was a noticeable landmark to Beurling as he buzzed Jackson Park during the federal government's national-war bonds-drive (.. all during the time George was in Windsor).
"Rest in peace, George, and please remember there are some of your fellow countrymen who will always remember and honour you. You were a very unique Canadian, alien to most, but you were a world winner at war, one of the few with the right stuff".

(.. an electrochemical conversion type of hydrogen fuel cell with it's base source derived from nuclear energy - all nuclear waste blasted into outter space with the ships' course set for the sun. Yes, I am expressing a sort of high-fetched ideal, here, but what other effective alternatives do we have when it comes to this sort of 'do or die' war we have been having with the environment in regard to ourselves misusing it)
Ontario Hydro is about to waste millions of dollars on a dud technology in an effort to boost it's electrical power output for the province. Taxpayers' money allotted for hydro development projects should be saved for a more efficient concept - a future/ultimate solution, 'the mother of all projects' and not wasted on band-aid ideas like those offered by such groups as the 'Green Collar Power Coalition', a 'wind farm' type development. The provincial government should, here and now, stop considering such alternatives when it comes to the fertile soil regions of Ontario. Members of government should be obligated to consider the province's future within a realm of true, common sense.
These days I am left to wonder if an individual's money, power and status are more important than our children's/grandchildren's future.
