Problem: Over compression is taking the enjoyment out of listening to music.
Reasoning: Labels and bands are too scared to have their song be lower in volume then the previous one. This is why Led Zepplin or Beatles tracks are lower in volume then a new found glory track.
Reality: To make the recording 'louder' engineers chop off the transients (the punch and excitement of a record) and bring up the overall level.
Why this is bad: Without transients the drums have no punch and the song stays at one volume throughout, completely throwing out the benefits of dynamic changes.
What Your Theory Music is doing about it: With every release we include "producer's mixes" which are versions of the song that come straight out of the console giving the listener the experience of hearing the mixes as if they were in the studio.
