Chris Saunders is a South African born photographer and film maker, from Johannesburg. His work is multidisciplinary and includes documentary projects as well commercial endeavours . In 2010 he won the year long grant at Fabrica, Benetton’s Creative Research Facility in Italy, where he researched and helped produce two issues issues of Colors magazine as well as work on various video and photo projects for United Colors of Benetton and Fabrica. He has also worked for some of the worlds top editorial and advertising clients.
He had his first Solo show in 2011 with his S’Phara Phara series which was a documentary series about the Real Actions Pantsula Dance crew from Orange farm, he is continuing the series into the broader culture of Pantsula and is working on a book with Art historian Daniela Goeller.
Chris’s documentary work is mainly focussed on different and original sub-cultures of South Africa from Pantsula, Izikhotane, Shangaan Electro and the different fashion groups from his country and continent.
