Control Group Productions is a platform for live arts research, development, distribution, and advocacy. Driven by the belief that art is integral to a healthy society, and guided by values of bold innovation in artistic excellence, we advance the Denver community and the global culture by creating original works, supporting other artists’ work, and engaging the public with powerful, immersive aesthetic experiences, dialogs, and education.
Control Group creates 1-3 major works each year and presents 5-8 local and touring companies at its home venue work|space Denver. We support our local community through artist residencies, educational opportunities, resource-sharing, and other services. Our alternative economic practices exponentially magnify our impact on the local arts economy, and our values-driven, selective curatorial practices have significantly changed the landscape of contemporary art and performance in Colorado. In 2012 our programming reached 15,000 people and offset an estimated $150,000 in costs to the performing arts community.
Our previous venue, The Packing House Center for the Arts, received Best Venue for Dance and Avant Garde from Westword Magazine in 2010. Recent achievements include Control Group’s first national tour – to the American Dance Festival in North Carolina – and our first international guest artists at work|space.
