Courtney Giannone is a professional dancer, performer and choreographer. She earned her BFA in dance from Fordham University and the Ailey School. Courtney has performed with companies such as Queen of the Night, Company XIV Buglisi Dance Theater , Battleworks, Kazuko Hirabayashi Dance Theater, Pascal Rioult, Spinnovation, STREB Extreme Action, Diavolo Dance Theater, Martha Graham Dance Conservatory, and the Alvin Ailey American Dance Foundation.
Courtney is a roue cyr artist and competitor for Team USA in the World Competition for Wheel Gymnastics. Courtney received the only perfect score in artistry, and she holds third place in the mono-wheel open routine qualification round of the World Competition of 2013. She is the featured cyr wheel instructor of New York City, the leader of Spinnovation NY, and a member of the NYC based Cyr Wheel Performance Troupe, Svindelic. Courtney performs cyr wheel on a regular basis and choreographs her own routines as well as routines for other cyr wheel performers.
Courtney’s choreographic productions merge several modalities of art including: modern dance, cyr wheel, acrobatics, video projection, and music. Her choreography has been performed as park of the BEAT BROOKLYN Festival, at Galapagos Arts Space, Dixon Place, The STREB Emerging Artist Commission (funded by NY Arts Council), Hoop Convergence Showcase in North Carolina, California State University of Long Beach, Seattle’s Cornish College of the Arts, The Ailey School, STREB Extreme Action, Tel Aviv, Kfar Vradim and Haifa, Israel.
Courtney makes experimental videos specifically dedicated to the art of movement. Her dance films have been screened at film festivals around the world including Sao Carlos International Film Festival, F e d a m e of Mexico, Move the Frame International Festival of Brazil, International Dance Video Festival of Burgundy, Frameworks Film Festival, Dance Magazine/ Dance TV, Northwest Film Forum of Seattle, The Big Screen Project, MUBI.com, Napoli Danza Film Festival, The STREB Motion in Media Film Festival, and the Coolidge Corner Theater.
Courtney is a certified movement instructor of Cyr wheel, GYROKINESIS ®, GYROTONIC ®, and the Lester Horton Technique. Her nominations, awards and affiliations include the Rolex Mentor Protege Arts Initiative, Gold medal pianist of Carnegie Hall, scholarships to schools such as American Ballet Theater, Kirov Ballet, Alvin Ailey, Studio Maestro, Joffrey Ballet, STREB Extreme Action, Diavolo Dance Theater, Buglisi Dance Theater, Pascal Rioult Dance Theater, contest winner of the Dance Magazine video competition, recipient of the STREB Emerging Artist Commission, recipient of the Bindlestiff First of May Award 2013, and a artist in residence of the Highways Performance Space in Santa Monica, California.
