Dayna Hanson is a Seattle-based choreographer, filmmaker and dance theater director. With her former company, 33 Fainting Spells, and on her own, Dayna has made short dance films that have screened at festivals worldwide. Her debut feature film, Improvement Club, premiered in Narrative Competition at South By Southwest in 2013.
Her live performance has been presented nationally and internationally; her choreography has also been seen in the work of Austin-based devised theater company Rude Mechs and Korean film director Tae Yong Kim. Among numerous awards, Dayna received a John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship in Choreography in 2006, a United States Artists Oliver Fellowship in Dance in 2010 and a 2012 Artist Trust’s Arts Innovator Award. Improvement Club received the Tacoma Film Festival’s award for “Best Regional Film” in 2013.
