After completing his free arts study with the degree dissertation klangerzeugung, klangkomposition, klangskulptur (sound generation, sound composition, sound sculpture), Wolfram DER Spyra has been working similarly as a free artist, composer, live musician and inventor of innovative sound sculptures. Besides his participation in international art projects and exhibitions, he has organised exhibitions of his own works within the context of the documenta support programme in the years 1992, 1997, 2002 and 2012. All four exhibitions have very quickly become insider´s tips of documenta visitors. In this context Dr. Hubertus Gassner (at that time director of the documenta archive) has made an appropriate statement about the relation of visual arts and music in the works of Wolfram DER Spyra:
"Experiencing this exhibition (Panakustikum, Kassel 1992) it becomes unnecessary to ask whether Wolfram DER Spyra does his work as a musician or free artist. Where the sensation of space is directly created created by means of sound, whereas its specific tinge is created by colours and materials, there the borders of the different genres of arts have also become fluent. ..."
