Daniel Cremer is an artist-assemblage, established 1983 in West Germany. Daniel has been practicing theatre, opera and social sculpture as a director at various theaters since 2006, at first at Schauspiel Köln, where he also worked as an assistant director, later at Theater Heidelberg and most recently at Junges Schauspielhaus Düsseldorf, HAU Berlin und Studio Я / Maxim-Gorki-Theater.
Daniel's work as a performance artist intervenes at the intersection of theatre and reality, using means like simulation, re-enactment, travesty and the distortion of language, seeking to examine, alienate and challenge seemingly familiar situations and established social institutions. Under the label Talking Straight, Daniel has been disassembling coachings, conferences, seminars, theatre festivals, religious rituals, school books, a gay pride parade and guided tours in broken English, misspelled German and Fremdsprache, an invented foreign language. Venues include Dockville Kunstcamp Hamburg, Berlinische Galerie, Theater Bremen and, among various smaller gallery spaces, at nGbK and Basso in Berlin-Kreuzberg. Academic invitations made him perform at TU Berlin and Viadrina University Frankfurt (Oder).
