In his eccentric cross-media works Egill Sæbjörnsson blends music, drawings, painting, projections, DIY and found footage into an uncanny animated universe of unlikely protagonists in which he often takes part himself.
An artist and musician, Sæbjörnsson creates arrangements that cannot be described as mere “installations”. They are all at once performance set, sculptural accumulations and three-dimensional drawings. Sæbjörnsson invents his own media and thus creates his very personal fantastic world populated by singing and talking plants, monkeys, pianos or earth mounds, as well as more occult stuff such as the 700-year-old ghost Mori. It is one of these magical and fantastical counter-utopias that suggest escapism while opening up unsuspected levels of perception and representation.
