My name is Emmaalouise, I am a film-maker. I also work a lot with different stills cameras leading me to look like a photographer, although I’m just a photographic person and I work with imagery. Often reflecting on the past within my work I choose to shoot on film as opposed to digital; I have been spending a lot of time experimenting with older photographic techniques and hand-processing my own super 8mm. My experimentation often leads me across paths ending in a saddening and obsolete direction which means I often have to bodge or manipulate visuals that should look a lot more pristine in their attire. I’m not trying to make my work look old or have pre-designed and manufactured film ‘grain’. Film grain is a chemical reaction, not a ‘look’ that should be faked by a simple post-production effect.
