Most editing applications follow the JKL shortcuts which make shuttling / variable speed playback under keyboard control very fluid.

J is play forward at 100%, pressed again goes a bit faster, repeated pressing increases speed
L is the same for reverse
K is pause

K and L together will play forward in slow motion
K held and L tapped steps forward frames

Certainly Avid, FCP, FCPx, Pr all follow this - as does QT7

Hi Trevor,

That makes sense for an editor, but Vimeo is a video hosting site only for playback. Some have also requested variable playback speeds, and I'm not discounting that at the moment, but I'm not sure it's something we'll be putting in our player soon.

Sure, I understand that it may not be a priority. But you are used by a *lot* of editors/producers for whom JKL would make sense (if you do decide to implement variable playback)
